Flytec 4005 Compact

Entry level vario that'll last a life time

Probably your first vario and maybe your last, unless you leave it in the incapable hands of airport baggage handlers or lend it to your mates! If you know you're going to break world records then you need the barograph functions of the 4020 or 4030, otherwise the 4005 or the 4010 is the one for you.

Altimeter

Altitude 1 (A1): Absolute altitude up to 17,000 feet (5,500 m). Resolution 3 feet (1m) over the entire range of measurement. Display in feet or meters (user selectable)
Altitude 2 (A2): Relative or absolute altitude up to 17,000 feet (5,500 m). Push button to zero A2 to display relative gain or loss in altitude. Resolution 3 feet (1 m) over the entire range of measurement. Display in feet or meters as A1
Pressure Corrected to mean sea level: This feature is used to calibrate A1 (QNH) when the mean sea level pressure is known. Range of adjustment: 950 - 1060 mbar/hPa. Display in hPa or inches Hg (user selectable)

Vario

Continuous analogue display: Patented multi-display graphically shows  lift and sink. Display range: ± 1,600 ft/min (± 8 m/s) with a resolution of 40 ft/min (0.2 m/s)

Continuous digital display: Display range: ± 4000 ft/min (20m/s). Resolution: 20ft/min (0.1m/s)

Averager: Affects the digital vario display. Seven selectable average value calculations over 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, or 35 seconds (1 update per second).

Acoustics: Higher tone for ascending and lower tone (more depressing) for descending. Ascent tone volume can be off, low or high. Descent tone volume can be off or the same as the ascent tone volume.
Ascent acoustics: Ascent-dependent interval and pitch.
Descent acoustics: Descent-dependant pitch (continuous tone). User selectable setting, below which the tone sounds. Adjustable setting between -40 and -1600 ft/min in 40ft/min intervals (-0.2 and -8 m/s in 0.2 m/s intervals).

Speed

Digital speed display: Airspeed displayed in a separate window of the instrument when a speed sensor is connected. Display units kmh, mph, or knots (user selectable). Display range: 0 - 130 kmh. Adjustable stall alarm from 10-150 kmh.

Temperature display

Ambient temperature: Integrated temperature sensor. Display in Fahrenheit or Celsius (user selectable). Range of measurement: -22°F to 158°F (-30°C to +70°C). Can be displayed either continuously or alternating with the clock or the speed display

Time functions

Real Time Clock: Hours, minutes, day ,month, and year (just like most clocks that I know). Date stamp on recorded flights

Stopwatch: Display up to 10 hours. Can be operated at any time by pressing the start-stop-reset function key

Flight Time Clock: Display of flying time. May be displayed during flight or for any recorded flight in MEMO mode

Flight Memory

Flight data: The 20 most recent flights are automatically recorded. The following values are recorded: Max altitude 1, max altitude 2, max ascent rate, max descent rate, flight duration and date

Option Modes

Run mode: (normal operation).
Set mode: (function adjustment); A1, A2, Chrono, Stall speed, time, memo, basic averager, sink alarm.
Option mode: (function programming). Units for A1 and A2, QNH, sensor correction. A2 relative or absolute. Units of speed, speed correction. Temperature display, Units of temperature. Averager interval, audio response level, units of vario.
